The actor's full name is Wilhelm Egon Fritz Fritsch. Willy Fritsch was born on 27 January 1901 in Kattowitz, German Empire. Willy Fritsch died on 13 July 1973 in Hamburg, West Germany. Willy Fritsch died of a heart attack and was buried in Ohlsdorf Cemetery in Hamburg. Willy Fritsch was the only son of a factory owner in Kattowitz in the Prussian province of Silesia. After the bankruptcy of Willy Fritsch's father in 1912, his family moved to Berlin where he worked as an employee of the Fritsch sr Siemens-Schuckert Company.

Willy Fritsch originally planned an apprenticeship as a mechanic but soon resorted to the profession as an extra at the Großes Schauspielhaus Theater. From 1919 he attended Max Reinhart's School of Drama at the Duchess Theater, where Willy Fritsch entered with small roles and co-starred with Marlene Dietrich as an understudy at the time.

Marlene Dietrich made her film debut as an assistant in Miss 1920's Miss Venus, and three years later, in her mysterious adventure; Marlene Dietrich had her first significant engagement. His musical comedies also featured songs from popular German films written by Friedrich Holländer.

Willy Fritsch was one of the best paid actors in Germany in the late Weimar era and had a large fan base wherever Willy Fritsch appeared. Palm Court music was also composed for Willy Fritsch. In the mid-1930s, Willy Fritsch was a leading actor in very successful comedies, such as Amphitryon, directed by Reinhold Schünzel or Lucky Kids.

After the war, Willy Fritsch moved to Hamburg and continued to appear with Hildegard Knef in films such as The Film Without, as well as in many German blockbusters such as The Heath Is Green. Willy Fritsch was married to art dancer Dinah Grace in 1930, and Willy Fritsch had two sons. Thomas Fritsch, the youngest son of Willy Fritsch, is also a successful actor.
