Andromeda Galaxy (The Largest Galaxy Of The Local Group)

Galaxy is a gravitationally bound system of stars, dusk and dark matter. Today we have talking about the Andromeda galaxy and also topic its size, mass, satellite, velocity and another detail.

The Andromeda is a spiral type galaxy which is 2.537 million light years away from the earth. The Andromeda is also known as messier 31, M31 or Andromeda Nebula. It is nearest from the Milky Way.

The satellite name of the Andromeda galaxy is galaxies M32 and M110. When M32 appears underwent a close encounter with the Andromeda galaxy in the past and M110 also appears to interact with the Andromeda galaxy and the astronomers found in the halo of the latter a stream of metal – rich stars appears have been stripped from these satellite.

Andromeda was first observed and described by the Persian astronomers and al – Rahman – Sufi in the year 964, and he also referred in his book fixed stars. In 1612, the German astronomer Simon Marius gave the description of the Andromeda galaxy based on telescopic observations. In 1785, the astronomers William Herschel note the reddish hue in the core region of Andromeda. In 1864, the astronomers William Huggins noted that the spectrum of Andromeda differed from that of a gaseous nebula. In 1887, Isaac Robert takes the first photographs of Andromeda.

In 1912 the Vesto Slipher used spectroscopy to measure the radial velocity of Andromeda. The velocity of Andromeda at 300 Kilometre per second. The rotational velocity has maximum value of 225 Kilometre per second at 1,300 light years from the core.

The Andromeda galaxy was formed 10 billion a year ago from the collision and merger of smaller proto galaxies. Estimate mass of Andromeda galaxy is approximately 1.5 * 1012 M, in 2005, the astronomers used to Keck telescope to show the sprinkle of stars outward from the galaxy.

The diameter of Andromeda galaxy is 220,000 light years. The number of stars available in this galaxy is estimated 1 trillion. The Andromeda galaxy is in 110 Kilometre per second it is approaching to the Milky Way.

Andromeda galaxy is visible to the naked eye from the earth on moonless night. It is best seen during autumn night in the northern hemisphere and from the mid- latitude, the galaxy reaches its highest point at midnight, it can be seen almost all night and from the southern hemisphere, it is most visible at the month in spring.

Andromeda galaxy is the largest galaxy of the local group, the Andromeda galaxy and the Milky Way galaxy are two most massive galaxies available in the local group, Andromeda find the local group is on the outskirts of a cluster, and it has thousands of galaxy, which calls the Virgo cluster. Andromeda galaxy lies between the Pegasus constellation and the point of Cassiopeia, it should look like a blur or a hazy oval in the sky.

The viral mass of the Andromeda galaxy is the same order of magnitude as that of the Milky Way. His Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy are expected to collide in 4.5 billion years. It is merging and form a giant elliptical galaxy and the Andromeda galaxy is among the brightest of the Messier object.
