Agustawestland History & Military Helicopters Information

Today we are going to talk about AgustaWestland. AgustaWestland was known as a famous helicopter design and big manufacturing company. This type of company is considered a British aircraft manufacturer and is currently under the wing of Leonardo S.p.a and formerly Finmeccanica. This company's helicopter is considered a common sight in the world of aircraft. So let's gather some more information about AgustaWestland.

History

The collaboration between Agusta and Westland began in 1981. The two companies co-founded AgustaWestland with a joint venture of European Helicopter Industries with the goal of developing a new medium-sized utility helicopter, the EH101.

AgustaWestland was founded in 2000. But when AgustaWestland merged with Leonardo, it became inactive in 2015. Yet AgustaWestland is considered obscure in recent times. This company is currently the helicopter division that makes the Leonardo helicopter brand.

After the 2005 period, it seemed that this type of company was performing better because AgustaWestland had won a contract to build Marine One but the program was canceled shortly thereafter. After acquiring more companies and interests, this company eventually merged into Leonardo.

Then, in June 2008, this type of company agreed to form a new joint venture company to assemble AW139 helicopters in Russia by Russian helicopters, a Russian-based helicopter manufacturer.

In September 2012, This Company and Northrop Grumman announced the signing of a comprehensive team agreement under which the companies jointly built the US Air Force Combat Rescue Helicopter and the American Navy's new "Marine One" Presidential Helicopter.

Crashes

Helicopters associated with this company have had several crashes, most recently on July 4, 2019. That crash of AgustaWestland took place in the Atlantic Ocean near Grand K Island in the Bahamas and had seven occupants and all killed in the crash.

The second most recent crash was in October 2018 when an AW169 helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff at King Power Stadium in Leicester, UK. Five people were aboard the helicopter, all of whom were killed in the crash. The cause of AgustaWestland's helicopter crash due to tail rotor control connection failure was a loss of wow control.
