Bilby became extinct in the 1950s. Bilby came out of the Bandicoot family. Bilby has lost about 80 percent of its population in the last 200 years. The bilby is an Australasian species of nocturnal omnivorous animal in the order Peramelemorphia. This bilby lives in the arid parts of northwestern and central Australia. Its population is declining drastically.
Bilbies can live in arid or semi-arid areas. Bilby prefers dry habitat under Spinifex grasses and acacia plants. The length of the bilby is 29-55 centimeters. The bilby has a long tail, large ears and a soft, silky fur. Bilbies do not need to drink water, as they get all the necessary moisture from their food.
The bilby feeds on larvae, seeds, spiders, larvae, bulbs, fruit, fungi and very small animals. The gestation period of this bird is about 12-14 days, which is the shortest in mammals.
