Conrad Veidt was born on 22 January 1893 in Berlin, German Empire. Conrad Veidt died on April 3, 1943 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. In 1939 he was granted British citizenship. Before immigrating to the United States around 1948, Conrad Veidt appeared in several British films, including The Thief of Baghdad. So Conrad Veidt was cast as a major stressor in Casablanca.

Conrad Veidt appeared in more than 100 films from 1916 until his death. The role of Conrad Veidt in The Man Who Laughs cuts No's face in perpetual humor as a perverted circus performer. He moved to Hollywood in the late 1920s and made a few films there. He returned to Germany because of Conrad Veidt's English-speaking pictures and his difficulty speaking English. During this period Conrad Veidt honed his skills to teach aspiring artists.

He was married three times. Conrad Veidt was first married to cabaret entertainer Gussy Holl on June 18, 1918. He then divorced four years later. Conrad Veidt's second wife, Felicitas Radke, was from an aristocratic German family and they were married in 1923. During this time she had 1 daughter. Conrad Veidt was last married in 1933 to Ilona Prager, a Hungarian Jew named Lily. He died of a massive heart attack.
